Alumni Association Information

About

The Blessing Nurses Alumni Association was formed in 1900 and includes over 1200 living alumni of the college. The Association is run by an elected board of officers who meet quarterly. All Blessing alumni are welcome to attend the annual Banquet and two annual meetings. They would love to have your input and support! Annual dues are $10, which goes to support Alumni Association projects. Checks should be made out to Blessing Nurses Alumni Association.

The annual Alumni Banquet is planned and carried out by the Alumni Association on the first Saturday in May. This event is eagerly anticipated by class members and enjoyed by all who are able to attend. Please look for banquet reservation information in the Spring newsletter. (See link to Newsletter Archive below.) The Alumni Association announces a scholarship recipient and the Nurse of the Year award at the banquet.

The Alumni Association also organizes and staffs the reception for new graduates and their guests after the annual Pinning Ceremony in early May.

The College publishes the "College of Nursing NEWS" three times a year with articles and information of interest to alumni and friends. If you wish to submit an article or news item for the newsletter please E-mail: ybennett@brcn.edu or mail to:

Illinois Nurse Practice Act

The Rules and regulations should be posted during January, 2009 for the 2007 NPA. We will post the website for you to view and comment on them when they are posted.

One of the most frequently asked questions is about the Mandatory Continuing Education that will be required. All of the details are not known yet--here is what we do know.  RNs will be required to show proof of earning 20 continuing education hours when they re-license in May 2012. So they can start earning these CEUs from 2010-2012. The specifc way of showing that you attended 20 hours of CE is not yet known. But these hours must be in continuing nursing education--they can not be basic education--like CPR, fire safety, etc. They can probably include online programs, journal CE articles, college classes, workshops, seminars, etc. And they must be from an approved provider of CE. LPNs will earn their 20 CEUs from 2011-2013.
